Protect your hard-earned Money from Investment Fraud
"Wealth is the product of man's capacity to think." -Ayn Rand
You may know the scheme of the "Nigerian-Connection", foreign-exchange trading programs, banking instruments trading programs, and other different "High Yield Investment Programs". Such schemes can include also investment in a gold mine in Africa, in diamonds and other precious stones, teak and jojoba plantations, and so on. Of course, there are also serious investment opportunities. But among all these operators are also people who want only one thing - your hard earned money!
I get still every day one or more emails from the "Nigerian-Connection", although this scheme is some years old. Some fraudsters changed this a little bit. The fraudsters claim now that they are family members or advisors of formerly African dictators as Mobutu of Zaire, Taylor of Liberia, or others. I am wondering that there are still people who fall for this old, and really primitive, scam.
If you got an extraordinary investment proposal, a so called "High Yield Investment Program", please do not transfer any funds nor sign any agreement without consulting BEFORE an independent specialist or attorney specializing in these kind of investment.
Use common sense, if it sounds too good to be true. In most cases, it is not true. We do not say that High Yield Investment opportunities do not exist - but too often they are scams in one or another way. Often, only the statement of the operators or intermediaries - "without risk" - is simply not true. And therefore it is fraud.
One example
It is some time ago that a friend was willing to invest US $ 20,000 in a foreign-exchange trading program. He has done business in many countries and is an experienced businessman. He told me a lot of things the operators of this exchange business had told him. I was skeptical, because it looked all too good to be true. They had a nice and impressing brochure. Exclusive and expensive paper, on the cover print in gold! What I disliked first was the forecast table, which shows only great profit - without risk. At the end, I found three (!) agreements my friend had to sign if he wanted to join the program. Two of them were very short, but the business operator was now - how surprising - a company in Macao, and not a US company as claimed by the operators within the meeting with my friend. Later they said, this was arranged for tax reasons.
The third agreement was very long and complicated. I believe most people who joined the program have never read it. And that was the pitfall. Everybody, who has signed ever these three agreements, had definitive given away his money to these people - without any chance of legal recovery. I explained my friend the agreements, and so he saved a lot of money.
What was the reason that my friend was so interested to invest in this High Yield Investment Program? I asked him how and where he met these people. He told me that a friend, an investment consultant (!) had called him and had told him about this "great opportunity". That was the first explanation why he became interested in the program.
Many operators of fraudulent High Yield Investment Programs try to find intermediaries, who shall sell the program to their existing clients. That is much easier than to find new victims. So, brokers should always also check very careful any investment opportunity they want sell. Otherwise, they can easily become involved in a scam although they think everything is all right.
But now let us go back to my friend. Together with his friend, my friend met then two people who were the operators of this scheme. And these people were power sales men who knew how to sell all and everything. The second reason why my friend was so eager to invest in their program. Almost every fraudster has a great knowledge of human behavior and psychology - and is a real power seller who is able to inspire confidence. They are great communicators, and in most cases, everybody simply likes them. These people could sell almost everything to everyone, and in most cases, they could make a lot of money in normal business areas, too.
Conclusion
Invest some money BEFORE an investment is made. Maybe, the advisor recommends lastly that you should not invest. Okay, in this case you have to pay the advisor. But this fee is a minor loss in relation to the investment you would have done - and loose lastly thousands of Dollars by giving your money a fraudster, who might later make a good living from your (and other peoples') money on a tropical island.
You will save a lot of money, if you do BEFORE, because recovery of investment is often also nearly impossible - or you have to spend a lot of money only to try to get back your investment.
However, if you have lost a substantial amount (US $ 100,000 +) we can recommend an attorney specializing in recovery.
